Florida post hurricane Irma

Unfortunately, the rebuilding of nurseries is moving very slowly. There is a shortage of labor and shade cloth. Conservatively, the south Florida nurseries lost 80% of their building structures as well as inventory.

Tri State was fortunate that right after the hurricane we were able to ship as much product that was not affected by the storm. Unfortunately, that supply will soon be gone.

Expect in the coming months a shortage of plants, smaller specs and blemishes, especially in Dracaenas, Aglaonema and Ficus in 10-12” or larger. If Florida has a mild winter, maybe these items will be more readily available by April. It will take at least a year for South Florida to return to normal.

Some good news, most outdoor spring crops were not affected by the hurricane. If you have any questions, please call the office.
